The Mark Makers® range is an early writing programme that encourages every child to make their mark. Aimed at children from 5 months upwards, the range simplifies writing skills through making basic marks. These marks make up letters of the alphabet - as well as numbers and shapes. Four characters proudly display each specific mark through their design shape and colour- Lionel, Archie, Ziggy and Swirlo.
The fun activities in this book were designed by a qualified Early Years teacher so that Mark Making
- the essential skill that leads to writing - could be encouraged in the home.
Children will love exploring these educational ideas through messy play and Mark Making - alongside developing their key motor skills, including pencil grip.
Through repetition, they will start to recognise and re-create Soldier, Rainbow, Magic and Monster Marks - represented by the lovable Mark Maker characters. These marks are the building blocks for letters, numbers, shapes and patterns.
Educationalist Rachel Fay created this award-winning pre-writing programme and developed classes where children aged 5 months to 5 years are encouraged to make their mark through play.
Let this book help give children a head start with their early writing - and have lots of fun along the way!

Ellie has loved mark making with the mark makers early writing activity book!!
There are a variety of characters which help children with different letter shapes.
Rowan absolutely loved Lionel the Soldier who helps with straight lines.
We begun with tracing shapes with our fingers and then had a go with a pencil.
The Mark Makers resources are awesome. They have been written by Rachel Fay who is a Primary Teacher specialising in Early Years and you can really see her expertise in the activities.
As well as the Early Writing Activity Book, there are also a range of story books and I look forward to Rowan enjoying those too!
Rory loved looking through this and naming all of the objects and colours he could spot. I’m hoping in the coming weeks he’ll want to do even more and start his early writing journey!
Ebrel is obsessed with writing at the moment and she had so much fun trying out the activity book, learning how to write her letters and numbers.
The exercises have been designed to encourage mark making and early writing skills and the books help to develop fine and gross motor skills, all with the aid of helping children grow more confident in their writing ability.
